'Documentation - Group By: Type' not grouping after editing a device

I'm pretty new to homelable, and I think it's great! I used v3.6.0 to scan my VLANs and created documents for over 50 devices.

A couple of my wifi access points were initially categorized as 'type: server'. I edited these records to 'type: ap' and the table to 'Type | ap'. So far, so good!

When I go to Documentation and group by type, these devices still show up as 'type: server'.

Is this a defect?

In v3.6.0 the Type grouping uses the device inventory, rather than the type text in the document. The relevant expression in bucketsFor is device.type || device.suggested_type || 'Untyped'.

That gives two cases to distinguish.

• If you edited the generated document, including its Type | ap table row, the inventory may still say server. Saving a document does not update the inventory type, so this document-only case follows the current grouping rule. Change and save the device's Type in Device Inventory as well.
• If you already changed and saved the inventory Type, save any document edits, reload once and re-check. DocumentationView keeps its own copy of the inventory, loaded when the page opens. I have not checked whether navigation remounts that view, so I cannot establish a stale-copy defect from this source check alone.

I checked the v3.6.0 grouping function with synthetic data. A document saying ap with an inventory type of server stayed in the server group. Changing the inventory input to ap moved it to the ap group. That verifies the grouping rule, rather than reproducing your browser's edit sequence.

If it still shows server after a reload, open browser DevTools, select Network, then load Documentation and find the scan/pending request. In its JSON response, check the affected device's id, type and suggested_type. An explicit server takes precedence over a suggested ap. If the response says ap for that same device but the tree still puts it under server, that would narrow this to a frontend defect. The document table alone cannot establish which value the grouping received.

Thanks so much for your detailed reply! I have a much better understanding of how the device inventory and documents work together.

I edited the type in the generated documents, but not in the device inventory. My device inventory has now been updated and saved -- the type is ap. So far, so good.

When I first switched to Documentation the devices were still in the server type. I reloaded the page and they are now ap. This suggests to me that merely navigating to the Documentation did not reload the inventory.
