Cpal does indeed not have an official logo, and referring to it by name for attribution purposes does not require permission. In fact, the Apache 2.0 license actively requires attribution (though I don't know the specifics of how far this requirement carries, IANAL). In any case, I'd personally refrain from representing cpal with the RustAudio logo directly, but you can of course write something like "cpal by RustAudio" and then use the logo there. Otherwise, I'd just keep it textual. |

Hi CPAL / RustAudio team,
I'm building Smart Beat, a free cross-platform desktop tablature editor and music practice application for macOS, Windows and Linux.
Smart Beat uses CPAL as the low-level cross-platform audio I/O layer for its native audio engine, and I'd like to visibly credit the project inside the application.
I'm planning to make Smart Beat public this coming weekend. The repository is still private while I prepare the launch, but I'll be happy to share it once it is public.
The current plan is to keep Smart Beat and its existing functionality free and accessible to everyone, and I don't currently intend to make money from the application. I may eventually explore optional paid features, but the intention is for the core application to remain freely available.
I'd like to include CPAL in an "About / Built with open source" section inside Smart Beat, together with a link to the project, and use the same attribution on the Smart Beat promotional website.
I couldn't find a dedicated CPAL logo or public branding guideline in the repository, so I wanted to ask before using any RustAudio/CPAL branding.
Would you be okay with Smart Beat displaying an official CPAL logo or RustAudio mark for this attribution purpose?
If CPAL does not have its own logo, would you prefer that I use the RustAudio logo alongside the CPAL name, or simply use the CPAL name as text?
If there is a preferred official asset, could you also let me know which one I should use and whether it should remain unmodified?
The intention is purely to thank and promote the project. I would not imply affiliation, sponsorship, partnership, or endorsement by CPAL or RustAudio.
I'm happy to share a screenshot/mockup of the planned placement before shipping it.
Thank you for maintaining CPAL — it makes Smart Beat's cross-platform native audio output possible.
