Agent Memory Guard: Security middleware for LlamaIndex memory/state (OWASP project) #21852

I think memory poisoning deserves to be treated as an integrity problem, not only as a prompt-injection detection problem. A useful security boundary would be: "Agent → Memory Policy → Memory Store → Provenance/Audit" Every memory write should carry provenance: who produced it, which interaction or tool generated it, when it was created, and what trust level it has. I would also separate detection from authorization. A detector can identify suspicious content, but a deterministic policy should decide whether the content is allowed to become persistent memory. In particular, content retrieved from external sources should never automatically acquire the same trust level as system-controlled state. For high-risk memory, I would consider:
The read path is especially important. Even if malicious content bypasses ingestion-time detection, the system should verify the memory again before promoting it into the agent's active context. This gives a stronger security model than relying exclusively on a classifier: the question becomes not only “is this text malicious?”, but also “is this memory item trusted and authorized to influence this decision?” For production systems, I would make the complete memory decision auditable and reproducible so that a security incident can be replayed and the exact reason for a memory item being accepted, rejected, or quarantined can be reconstructed. |

A small first-run compatibility note before choosing the LlamaIndex hook: with the published For your integration-point question, I'd start with a workflow step that owns whether retrieved content enters Context. A retriever wrapper can return the checked content; the callback can record what happened. In particular, forward the value returned by One useful non-adversarial acceptance case is this public SQLite recovery experience, v1, readable without an account: an earlier read followed by a competing commit needs rollback/re-read/recompute; a still-active writer is a different bounded-wait case. Its conditions and provenance should survive the handoff together with the advice. In a bounded Python 3.12.14 library check, writing that experience's advice, four conditions, ID/version and declared provenance with Would updating the showcased API call and adding that condition-preservation check to a real Context workflow be a useful first integration trial? |

What I built
Agent Memory Guard — an open-source Python middleware that screens memory reads/writes in AI agent systems for injection attacks, data poisoning, and exfiltration.
Why LlamaIndex users should care
If you use LlamaIndex with persistent memory (chat stores, vector stores for agent context, or the Context workflow pattern), your agents are vulnerable to memory poisoning — classified as OWASP ASI-06.

Would love feedback from the LlamaIndex community. Especially interested in the best integration points — should this be a callback handler, a custom retriever wrapper, or a workflow step?
