Having a hard time enabling 240hz HiDPI on 1440p

Hello!

I have been banging my head against a wall for the past couple of hours now.

I have a hard time enabling HiDPI mode on a 240hz 1440p.

I did a good amount of digging and played with the settings in betterdisplay. I have unlocked all of the options and have also tried custom added resolutions (2560x1440 240hz) but the only way I can enable HiDPI in 1440p is when I choose it from the Display Mode menu and after that changing the refresh rate like shown on the attached image. The thing is, in system settings, under resolution, the refresh rate shows that it's variable (48-144hz). Am I actually in 240hz or is my refresh rate variable (I cannot tell just by looking at the screen).

I'd really appreciate any and all help. Thank you.

Edit - I just checked the monitor settings and it is indeed running at 144hz... I am at a loss.

If you click on the 240Hz "non-exposed" refresh rate (the one with the wave signal) option (and you see a mode-switch blink), the OS should attempt to drive the display at 240Hz. Isn't this the case?

When I click on the 240Hz, the screen blinks and it shows that I have selected the option but in System settings, the refresh rate shown is 144Hz.

Ok, that does not matter, the System Settings will never show you these non-exposed modes/refresh rates. I thought you checked the display's OSD itself (some displays have an info section, showing the current actual refresh rate).

Yes, it actually is 240hz! Just checked the display's OSD like you mentioned, it clearly shows the difference between 144 and 240hz. Thank you! Appreciate your help :)

May I ask another question, please? The text on the monitor is incredibly small, it's frustrating. I've done a good amount of reading on the internet but decided to ask here as well, just to be sure. The way macOS handles scaling is a bit different than Windows. If I choose, from Display mode in betterdisplay, say, 2031x1143, the text size is perfect, but that doesn't mean that I'm running that resolution, correct? The "main" resolution the monitor would be running should still be 1440p, just the UI will be scaled to the 2031x1143 resolution. Thank you once more.
