Thanks for laying out the progress so far that you had, and am really happy that you liked the software overall. For me myself, i had reverted by config to 2x2, hahaha, i feel like my brain cannot take it with too many grids and keys. Event tho I am not practicing actively like you, but i just use it as i always had been without touching mouse. I do not also use the touchpad at all, as my setup is more like macbook lid off with one external monitor. I think you definitely will like to have a split keyboard. I've been using splits for almost 2 years and still liking my keyboard a ton. Also if i really have to use my mac's built-in keyboard, i am running kanata, which is another open source software that i like a ton, that basically maps my built-in keyboard to my split keyboard layout. So it's been a while of me using neru with the relatively new 5x5 grid. And I can say that I feel comfortable with it. I tell literally everyone in my environment to try out this approach. My approach to this is the same that I used when I learned to play guitar.
You give someone guitar, they will not play anything reasonable right away. And they will not blame guitar for that. So, I am still much faster with my touchpad than with neru, yet I don't blame neru for that and I would like to proceed learning. But I put deadline for myself. I write quarter notes and one of the quarter goals for the next quarter (till the end of June) I put using neru instead of touchpad.
I already don't feel any friction, even though I am much slower. But it is just intuitive already. So I think I will give 4 more months to get faster and decide after that whether it is a viable option. After that I plan to buy a split keyboard, because I think I will get faster and I will not need to use touchpad anymore.
Something like this. How is your progress going, @y3owk1n?
