ci(deploy): stop Vercel Git deployments for the dev branch - #79
The CodesWhat team shares a single Vercel Hobby limit of 100 deployments a day. It ran out on 2026-10-26, and #78 had to wait about 11 hours for a production slot. In the last week this project made 30 deployments, and 9 of them were dev previews nobody looks at. A promotion's tree already matches a PR head whose preview was built, so those builds add nothing.
vercel.json sets git.deploymentEnabled to { "dev": false }. PR branches still get previews and main still deploys production.
README-VERCEL explains why, and why an Ignored Build Step isn't the answer: Vercel counts canceled builds against the same daily limit.
Effect on promotions: the dev to main PR won't get a Vercel preview check anymore. That check isn't required, and the required verify check still runs on the dev push.
To confirm after merge: the next push to dev should create no Vercel deployment, and the next merge to main should still deploy production.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Deployment
Vercel Git deployments are disabled for the dev branch. Feature and fix branches retain preview deployments, and main continues to deploy to production.
The dev-to-main promotion pull request no longer receives a Vercel preview check.
Documentation
Clarified the Hobby plan’s daily deployment limit across CodesWhat sites, the former use of builds for dev previews, and that canceled builds count toward the limit.
dev previews were 9 of this project's 30 deployments in the last week, and
nobody uses them: a promotion's tree matches a PR head whose preview already
built. The CodesWhat team shares one 100-a-day Hobby deploy limit, which ran
out on 2026-10-26 and held a production fix for about 11 hours. PR branches
keep their previews and main still deploys production. An Ignored Build Step
wouldn't help, since Vercel counts canceled builds against the same limit.

Walkthrough
Vercel Git deployments are disabled for the dev branch. The deployment guide describes preview deployments for feature and fix branches, production deployments from main, and the Hobby plan’s daily deployment limit.
The configuration disables Git deployments for dev. The guide documents preview deployments for feature and fix branches, production deployments from main, the missing preview check on promotion PRs, and deployment limit details.

Publishes #79: Vercel Git deployments are off for dev (git.deploymentEnabled). The dev tree matched the reviewed #79 head; dev push verify passed on 1cc2949 and neither the #79 merge nor the reconcile push created a Vercel deployment.
