Adds a RotorHazard-style visual marshal for reviewing and editing lap times.

  • Record filtered RSSI during races to an SD sidecar with a small RAM staging buffer, exposed via /api/marshal/rssi
  • Race history Marshal UI to review RSSI peaks and edit lap times
  • Graph zoom/pan, drag-to-place markers, Ctrl multi-select delete
  • Theme-aligned styling, Gate/Lap labels, collapsible help
  • Refresh race history timeline and analytics after lap edits

Merges cleanly (main is an ancestor of this branch).

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Added automatic RSSI signal-history recording for races when storage is available.
    • Added the Visual Marshal tool for viewing, selecting, dragging, recalculating, deleting, and saving gate crossings on a zoomable signal graph.
    • Added a unified race editor with race details and typed lap editing when signal history is unavailable.
    • Added race-history metadata and status indicators for available or truncated signal history.
    • Added English guidance and controls for the Visual Marshal interface.
    • Added per-key language fallback to English for missing translations.
  • Bug Fixes

    • Race saving and optional notes now continue correctly after timer-stop requests, including connection failures.
    • Race details refresh after lap edits or saved Visual Marshal changes.

Record filtered RSSI during races to an SD sidecar with a small RAM
staging buffer, expose samples via /api/marshal/rssi, and add a race
history Marshal UI to review peaks and edit lap times.
Add graph zoom/pan, marker drag placement, Ctrl multi-select delete,
theme-aligned styling, Gate/Lap labels, collapsible help, and refresh
race history timeline/analytics after lap edits.

Use the configured minimum lap time for recalculation.

minLapInput is the client-side value for the device setting, in seconds. Convert it to milliseconds and fall back to 2000 when the value is invalid. The current constant filters valid crossings from tracks with laps shorter than two seconds.

Keep a visible focus indicator on the guide toggle.

This rule sets outline: none for :focus-visible and replaces it with a 4% white background. That background is nearly invisible on the dark panel, so keyboard users lose the focus indicator on #marshalGuideToggle. Keep an outline for the focus state, and keep the background change for hover only.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Recalculate drops a crossing that is still open at the end of the capture.

The loop only records a pass when v < exit closes the crossing. If the RSSI stays at or above exit through the last sample, crossing remains true and peakIdx is never pushed. This happens when the race stops right after the final gate pass, while the aircraft is still near the gate. The last lap then disappears from the recalculated list, and marshalSaveLaps writes the shortened list.

Flush an open crossing after the loop.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Start the RSSI capture before the buzzer, LED, and webhook calls.

start() sets raceStartTimeMs = millis() at Line 116 but calls beginRace() last, after buz->playCue, led->on, and webhooks->triggerRaceStart() at Lines 134-142. The Marshal UI treats sample index 0 as race time 0: drawMarshalChart computes each sample's x position from i * marshalState.intervalMs, while the crossing markers come from race.lapTimes, which are relative to raceStartTimeMs.

Any delay between Line 116 and Line 146 shifts the whole RSSI trace relative to the markers. triggerRaceStart() performs a network request, so an unreachable webhook host adds its latency to that offset. The result is that every marker sits away from its RSSI peak, which defeats the purpose of the visual marshal.

Move the recorder call directly after state = RUNNING.

🐛 Proposed fix for the timebase offset
     raceStartTimeMs = millis();
     startTimeMs = raceStartTimeMs;
     state = RUNNING;
+
+ // Anchor sample index 0 to raceStartTimeMs; the Marshal UI maps index -> race time.
+    if (rssiRecorder) {
+        rssiRecorder->beginRace();
+    }
     if (webhooks && conf->getGateLEDsEnabled() && conf->getWebhookRaceStart()) {
         webhooks->triggerRaceStart();
     }
-
-    if (rssiRecorder) {
-        rssiRecorder->beginRace();
-    }
 }

Note that beginRace() also performs SD work (mkdir and the header placeholder write), so this moves that cost earlier in start() rather than adding it.

Consume pending state only after the race file commits.

RaceHistory::saveRace() calls attachToRace() before writeRaceFile(). This line clears pendingReady after moving the sidecar.

If writeRaceFile() fails, the sidecar has no race metadata reference. A retry cannot attach it because the recorder no longer has pending state. Use a commit or rollback step so the recorder consumes the pending capture only after the race file saves successfully.

Validate races and preserve save failures.

RaceHistory::fromJsonString treats a missing or non-array races member as an empty array. It also returns false when every race is a duplicate. The upload handler exposes this result as the import status.

Validate the member first. Treat duplicates as successful skips, but do not return true unconditionally because saveRace can fail when storage is unavailable or the file write fails.

Remove the duplicate loadRaces() call.

onSdCardReady() calls raceHistory.loadRaces() at lines 198 and 222. Remove the first call and its log. Keep the existing conditional reload block at lines 222-226.

cleanupOrphans() only deletes RACE_RSSI_ACTIVE_PATH; it does not inspect the loaded race list. Its current position does not delete sidecars for unloaded races.

This is still WIP. I need to resolve a potential heap issue - the race graph is fine for tested short races (2–5 mins), but /api/marshal/rssi builds the whole sample array as a single JSON string on top of two copies of the sample buffer, so longer captures have real potential to run out of heap.

The other possible issue is that the staged RSSI buffer is flushed to SD every 512 samples (~10s at the 20ms sample interval), and that append waits up to 200ms on the SPI mutex from inside the lap-detection loop. So there's potential for a missed lap or RSSI sample - needs testing. Race end also reads and rewrites the whole sidecar to finalize the header.

Review follow-ups on the Visual Marshal branch.

/api/marshal/rssi built the whole sample array as one contiguous String
reserved at samples*4+96, on top of two full copies of the sample buffer,
and request->send() copied it again. At the 45000-sample cap that document
is 160,899 bytes, so a long race could not be served. It is now emitted
incrementally through beginChunkedResponse by MarshalRssiStream, and
loadSamples trims the header off the buffer it already read instead of
allocating a second one.

MarshalRssiStream returns 0 only once the document is complete, because
ESPAsyncWebServer treats a zero-length chunk as end of body. A host-side
harness checks its output byte-for-byte against the previous encoding for
chunk sizes from 1 to 1 MB, including every ragged size up to 300.

RSSI staging was flushed to SD from inside handleLapTimerUpdate, so every
512 samples the lap-detection loop could block for up to 200 ms on the SPI
mutex plus the card write. The recorder now owns three staging buffers, a
write queue and a low-priority writer task; addSample only ever posts a
full buffer and takes a fresh one with zero wait. If the writer falls
behind the sample is dropped and counted rather than stalling detection.

Dropped samples are no longer added to sampleCount, which would have
skewed the graph's time axis, and finalizeHeader now trusts the on-disk
byte count and patches the 12 header bytes in place instead of reading and
rewriting the whole sidecar at the end of every race.

Also: strip a UTF-8 BOM from racehistory.cpp; check data.status in
marshalSaveLaps, since the endpoint answers 200 with {"status":"ERROR"} on
a failed write; and fall back to English per key in i18n.t(), because the
marshal strings exist only in en.json and de/es/fr/zh-CN users would
otherwise see raw keys such as history.marshal_title.
spiffs on custom_8mb.csv was 1MB, sized back in v1.3.1 when data/ was around
650KB. data/ has since grown to 907KB on v1.7.3, and LittleFS rounds every file
up to a 4096-byte block, so the AIO image now lands at roughly 95% full and any
further UI work fails to build with "No more free space".

Nothing was using the 2.94MB of the 8MB chip past 0x510000, and the layout was
lopsided: the 4MB SuperMini already gets 1.4MB of filesystem and the 16MB
XIAO S3 Plus gets 2MB, so the 8MB boards had the smallest filesystem of any
target. spiffs is now 0x3E0000 (3.875MB), which takes the image to about 25%
full, and the last 64KB becomes a coredump partition so panics leave a
backtrace.

nvs, otadata, app0 and app1 keep their original offsets and sizes, so an OTA
app update still lands correctly and saved settings survive. spiffs keeps its
0x410000 offset, so the documented esptool command and the per-release
FLASH_INSTRUCTIONS.txt are unchanged.

Devices that OTA-update only the app keep their old 1MB table and need one full
reflash before they can take a filesystem image built against this one. That
needs calling out in the release notes for whichever version ships it.

Verified: FPVGateAIO, ESP32S3 and FPVGateSolo all build a 4,063,232 byte image.
Viewing a race offered both Edit and Marshal, which did substantially the same
job from two different modals. Marshal is now the single editor, renamed Edit,
with the race details it was missing.

Race name, tag, total distance and notes move into a side panel beside the lap
list, so the graph keeps the width it needs. Save now writes both, posting
/races/update for the details and /races/updateLaps for the laps. Both endpoints
answer 200 with {"status":"ERROR"} on a failed write, so a shared assertSaved
helper checks the body rather than the HTTP status; the old Marshal save
reported success regardless.

The Marshal button used to be conditional on the race having an RSSI sidecar,
so races recorded before this feature, or with no SD card in, only ever had the
Edit button. With one editor those races would have lost lap editing entirely,
so they now get typed entry in seconds where the graph would be, with Add Lap
and per-row delete. The two lap lists are alternatives and never appear
together.

Typed edits are held in a copy on marshalState rather than in raceHistoryData,
so closing without saving no longer leaves the cached race mutated, and the
inputs are read back before any re-render so adding a lap cannot discard edits
to the other rows. Both were bugs in the edit modal this replaces.

Removes the standalone #editRaceModal and 171 lines of superseded JavaScript.

tests/race-editor.test.js brace-matches segmentsToAbsPasses and
absPassesToSegments out of data/script.js and runs the real implementations,
covering the lossless round trip, out-of-order markers sorting back to positive
laps, typed-entry validation and the history gate. jest 37/37.
Race History showed recent races below much older ones, and with enough races
on the card the newest could vanish from the web UI entirely.

Nothing in the path sorted by date. Storage::listDir returns names in raw
openNextFile() order, RaceHistory::loadRaces appended them as they came,
toJsonString then emitted only the first MAX_RACES entries of that order, and
the front end assigned the array through untouched. Race files are named
DDMMYY-HHMMSS.json, so even a clean alphabetical listing sorts by day of month
before month and year: a race from 2 August (020826) sorts ahead of one from
11 September (110926), which is exactly why the newest races appeared last.

saveRace inserts at the front, so ordering was right during a session and only
broke after a reload. That is why this surfaced now: loadRaces previously ran
only in setup() with LittleFS mounted, so races on the SD card were never loaded
at boot. Reloading once the card mounts finally gave the missing sort something
to get wrong.

Sorting by timestamp descending fixes both symptoms, since the MAX_RACES cap
then keeps the newest races rather than an arbitrary selection.

The load message is now an unconditional Serial.printf that reports the count
and says when the cap is trimming what the web UI receives, because working out
how many races were actually on the card needed a reflash to answer.

Verified on an AIO: GET /races returns 5 races in strict newest-first order,
and the self test reports storage type SD with race history 5/50.

Keep races sorted after historical imports.

fromJsonString() calls saveRace() for races with arbitrary timestamps. This line always inserts each imported race at the front.

An older import therefore breaks newest-first ordering. It can also displace a newer race from the first MAX_RACES entries returned by toJsonString().

Insert by timestamp, or sort races after a successful import.

Switch to typed lap editing when RSSI loading fails.

A race with RSSI metadata enters graph mode before the request starts. If the sidecar is missing, invalid, or temporarily unavailable, this handler only draws an empty chart. It leaves the typed editor hidden, so the user cannot edit lap times.

Set marshalState.hasHistory to false, call setMarshalGraphVisible(false), and render the typed lap list in this failure path.

Ignore RSSI responses from an obsolete editor session.

Each callback writes through the global marshalState. If race A is closed and race B is opened before race A's request completes, race A's samples can replace race B's samples. The user can then adjust race B against the wrong RSSI trace and save incorrect lap times.

Capture the editor state or request token before fetch(). Before each callback mutates state, verify that the same editor session is still active.

Distinguish missing keys from falsy translation values.

When a served locale JSON contains an intentional "", 0, or false, loadLocale() accepts it, but resolve() treats it as missing. t() then uses the English value, and translatePage() applies that fallback to the UI. Check property existence instead.

Provide a keyboard-accessible lap editing path for races with RSSI history.

These lines hide the typed editor whenever a graph exists. The replacement graph only binds pointer and wheel events. A keyboard user cannot add or move a crossing, although the deleted editor allowed typed lap changes for every race.

Keep an accessible typed mode for these races, or add complete keyboard controls for marker insertion and movement.

Prevent partial persistence across the two save requests.

/races/update has already committed race details when this lap update starts. If /races/updateLaps fails, the UI reports a failed save while the details remain changed. Retrying does not restore the original record.

Use one backend operation that validates and commits both details and lap times atomically. Alternatively, implement an explicit rollback for the first write.

Do not resume a fixed-interval capture after internal sample loss.

A failed append or unavailable buffer removes samples from the middle of the capture. Later samples still enter the contiguous payload.

The sidecar stores no timestamps or gap positions. Each later sample therefore appears earlier by one interval for every missing sample. The truncated flag cannot correct this time-axis shift.

Stop accepting samples after the first loss, or extend the format to preserve gap positions.

Do not continue after a writer drain timeout.

beginRace() deletes and reuses the capture paths even when the previous writer is still active. endRace() patches and renames the file even when the writer can still append to it.

A slow SD operation can mix two captures or change the payload after the header is finalized. Require confirmed writer idleness before file deletion, reuse, header patching, or rename.
