Background

Three PRs (#1241, #1247, #1248) were created to address #1215 by adding Redis, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and DynamoDB storage adapters. All three were closed because they violated the architecture rules in AGENTS.md.

Specifically, they placed redis_adapter.py, mongodb_adapter.py, postgresql_adapter.py, and dynamodb_adapter.py directly into the core SDK (praisonaiagents/storage/) and added heavy optional dependencies (redis, psycopg2, boto3, etc.) to the core pyproject.toml.

The Rule

As stated in AGENTS.md:

Protocol-Driven Core (MUST)
Core SDK (praisonaiagents) gets Protocols, Hooks, Adapters (abstract), Base classes. No heavy implementations.
Wrapper (praisonai) gets heavy implementations, external integrations, optional deps.

The Task

Re-implement the 4 storage adapters following the correct pattern already established by the praisonaiagents.db module:

  1. Keep Core Clean: The core SDK (praisonaiagents/storage/) already has StorageBackendProtocol in protocols.py. That is all it needs. (Do not modify praisonaiagents/storage/backends.py or base.py).
  2. Implement in Wrapper: Create the concrete adapter implementations (e.g., RedisStorageAdapter, MongoDBStorageAdapter) in a new directory: src/praisonai/praisonai/storage/.
  3. Dependencies: Add the optional dependencies ([redis], [postgresql], etc.) to the WRAPPER'S configuration, not the core SDK's.
  4. Proxy/Routing: Update praisonaiagents/storage/__init__.py to dynamically proxy/route calls to the wrapper implementations, exactly like how praisonaiagents/db/__init__.py uses _LazyDbModule to load praisonai.db.adapter.

You can salvage the implementation code from the closed PRs:

Do not recreate the architectural mistake. Ensure the heavy, dependency-laden logic lives in src/praisonai/, while src/praisonai-agents/praisonaiagents/storage/ remains protocol-only.

    • ✅ Optional Dependencies: Added [redis], [mongodb], [postgresql], [dynamodb] to wrapper's pyproject.toml
    • ✅ Clean Separation: Core SDK now only has protocols and lightweight File/SQLite backends
