🐛 Fix AiidaDeprecationWarning when running verdi code test - #7747
ashishsoni-ai wants to merge 2 commits into
Conversation
…#6947) verdi code test had callback=set_code_builder configured on its CODE argument. Because code_test does not use code_builder to provide option defaults, this callback unnecessarily imported and instantiated the deprecated CodeBuilder, emitting an AiidaDeprecationWarning. Remove callback=set_code_builder from code_test, properly filter AiidaDeprecationWarning where CodeBuilder is temporarily used, and add a test verifying no deprecation warning is emitted.

Filter the builder deprecation warning src/aiida/cmdline/commands/cmd_code.py |
The builder construction contexts ignore AiidaDeprecationWarning instead of recording all warnings. |
Remove builder setup from code test src/aiida/cmdline/commands/cmd_code.py, tests/cmdline/commands/test_code.py |
The CODE argument no longer uses set_code_builder. A regression test checks success without invoking the callback or emitting AiidaDeprecationWarning. |

Explanation
Issue
#6947reports anAiidaDeprecationWarningduringverdi code test. The PR evidence shows thatcmd_code.pyremovesset_code_builderfrom thecode_testargument, suppressesAiidaDeprecationWarningonly whileCodeBuilderis used inset_code_builderandsetup_code, and addstest_code_test_no_deprecation_warningintests/cmdline/commands/test_code.py. These changes address the reported warning and add automated coverage. The issue has no additional coding acceptance criteria.

Explanation
The reported changes are limited to
src/aiida/cmdline/commands/cmd_code.pyand its command test. Removing the unused callback, scoping the deprecation-warning filter, and adding regression coverage directly support issue#6947. No unrelated change is identified in the supplied PR evidence.

Click attaches the
CODEargument and its callback when it createscmd_code.code_test. Patchingcmd_code.set_code_builderlater does not replace that callback. If@arguments.CODE(callback=set_code_builder)returns,calledcan remain empty and this regression test can pass. Assert that thecodeparameter oncmd_code.code_test.paramshas no callback. Fixes #6947
Problem
When running
verdi code test <code_label>, anAiidaDeprecationWarningis emitted:This occurred because
code_testhad@arguments.CODE(callback=set_code_builder)attached to its argument.set_code_builderwas originally created forcode_duplicateto populate option defaults from aCodeBuilderinstance.code_testdoes not have any options that consumectx.code_builder, so callingset_code_builderwas entirely redundant and triggered unnecessaryCodeBuilderinstantiation and deprecation warnings.Solution
src/aiida/cmdline/commands/cmd_code.py, change line 155 to@arguments.CODE().set_code_builderandsetup_code, usewarnings.simplefilter('ignore', AiidaDeprecationWarning)insidewarnings.catch_warnings()to ensure the warning is suppressed whereCodeBuilderis temporarily used before removal in v3.test_code_test_no_deprecation_warningintests/cmdline/commands/test_code.pyverifying thatset_code_builderis not called and no deprecation warning is emitted duringverdi code test.
