A project focused on transforming a USB into a bootable repair stick: Medicat as the base, extra live ISOs in one folder, PortableApps for day-to-day tools. v21.12, Ventoy does the booting.
| Component | Minimum Specification | Recommended Specification |
|---|---|---|
| USB Drive Capacity | 32 GB | 64 GB – 128 GB (USB 3.0+) |
| USB Port Compatibility | USB 2.0 port required for fallback | USB 2.0 / USB 3.0 |
| System Architecture | 64-bit (x86_64 / amd64) | UEFI & Legacy BIOS |
| Firmware Requirement | Secure Boot Disabled | Secure Boot Disabled |
| Medicat Base Footprint | ~20 GB | ~25 GB (unpacked) |
| Additional ISOs / Storage | ~10 GB | ~30 GB+ (Ubuntu, Windows, Kali, Clonezilla) |
Plug the stick into Windows and you should see MediCat v21.12. Leave the VTOYEFI partition alone — that is Ventoy.

Where new stuff goes: drop extra .iso files in Live_Operating_Systems. Don’t unzip them. Ventoy lists whatever is in that folder.
PortableApps
If you booted Medicat → Mini Windows 10
- Wait until Mini Windows 10 finishes loading.
- Look at the taskbar on the right, near the clock.
- Click the grey circle with a white arrow.
- The PortableApps menu opens.
If you are already in normal Windows
- Open the Medicat drive (for example
D:). - Go to
PortableApps\PortableApps.com\. - Double-click
PortableAppsPlatform.exe. - The menu pops up and fills in with programs.
Add Clonezilla, Kali, Netboot.xyz, Ubuntu, Debian
An ISO is one file that holds a whole OS. Copy it into Live_Operating_Systems.
| Tool | What to download | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Clonezilla | live ISO, e.g. clonezilla-live-3.3.0-33-amd64.iso |
Optional. Medicat already has other backup tools. |
| Kali Linux | live ISO, e.g. kali-linux-2025.4-live-amd64.iso |
Use the live build, not the installer. |
| Netboot.xyz | netboot.xyz.iso |
Needs LAN files or internet so it can fetch tools. |
| Debian | netinst ISO, e.g. debian-13.6.0-amd64-netinst.iso |
Same drop-in folder. This one installed as Debian 13 (trixie) 13.6. |
Boot an ISO from Medicat
- Restart the computer from the Medicat USB, not from Windows.
- Arrow down to Live Operating Systems and press Enter.
- Every ISO you put in that folder should be listed.
- Highlight the one you want and press Enter.
After that, follow the on-screen installer or live-session steps for that OS.
| Symptom | What I did |
|---|---|
| USB will not boot | Disable Secure Boot in BIOS/UEFI (F2 / F10 / Del / Esc at startup → Boot or Security → save). |
